hi all! new here, was hoping to get some feedback on folks with a passion for cooking.
this is a custom order I recently finished and it got me to thinking about making sets as I enjoyed the divergence from hunters and bowies and camp knives.
the knife is 1095 H.C. steel, differentially heat treated and tempered back to a blue instead of the usual bronze,
over all length is 15 1/2 inches with the blade at 9 inches in length. at its widest part it is 1 3/4 inches wide. it is 3/16s thick at the spine and has a convex edge geometry.
handle material is stabilized Bubinga wood pinned with brass with the bolster being nickel silver also pinned in brass. also some copper spacers betwixt the bolster and scales for that added bling

so what do you all think? Im thinking about doing a full chef's set and bringing it to my local culinary supply store on consignment, the set will likely be in the 1500-2k range. whats everyone's thoughts? there a market for custom made hand forged kitchen sets?
thanks for looking and any feedback!
Shane

Metalbender the knife looks and sounds absolutely professional and of extreme quality. However, I think it has to be tested on what it is designed for. Only then can one know if this knife lives up to the demands

You mean it will cost $1,500.= - $2,000.= per set??

Isn't that a rather steep price for a set of knives? (This is a sincere question because I never saw a price like this before for a set of knives)

2000/6 = 333 per knife. a factory made wusthof is what about 150-200?
these are hand forged, hand filed and finished one of a kind knives.
each knife taking about 3 days to make from start to finish.
as far as price its about middle of the road for my work,
my every day carry camp/hunting knives are about 150 and my one-of high end peices that take about a week to make run around 700.
and im your average priced custom knife maker
basically I charge about 100 per day for my labor and a 6 knife set with a vegtan and latigo hand stitched knife roll is likely a 150-200 hour project.
basically 2-3 weeks of labor. (doesnt take weekends off heh)

I see Thank you for explaining that. I never knew knives could run such high prices. I will now look out for it here, in Israel, as well to see if we got those in the shops.

I wish you success in your endeavour, Metalbinder

Shane,

Those are the most beautiful knives ever! There is certainly a market out there for them if they are well made, meant to last a lifetime, and easy to care for.

Go for the higher end audience-- they certainly want something unique, but of lasting quality.

Beautiful stuff!
