Hi French Cooks, I am new to the blog and am keen for your thoughts. We are doing our kitchen over and I have scouted out appliances and until 2 days ago I was ready to go with the Dacor 48" duel fuel range which seems pretty fabulous to me - until I spied the new La Cornefu range in a Williams and Sonama...and fell in love. But I have to be sensible. The sales clerks could only read the advertising blurb and had no idea about: 1. ease of use; 2. whether the ovens are truly big enough for a turkey roast; 3. how they are cleaned; 4 how they are serviced (the distributor is all the way in California, the manufacturer is in France and I live in Toronto...so who does house calls?); 5. repair history and customer complaints. Anyone know anything about these little beauties?

You might find my response to the former thread about le cornefu interesting although the link is in french - with google translating machine you could probably make use of it

Thanks Ratatouille. The UK Cornue site has a little more info and some close up pictures which are useful. I called the US distributor and spoke to a very Parisian-sounding Cornue rep who advised as follows: ovens are both electric not gas (so heat more evenly and its a more familiar set up for North American cooks); installation not complicated but does require someone who knows about installing gas lines like any range ie don't attempt it yourself (bien sure!); the oven can take a 22lb turkey but the best way to get a feel for it would be for me to try to fit differently sized roasting pans from Williams and Sonoma shelves into the ovens; it is not self-cleaning bc heating ovens to that temp throws off the thermators (she says) but walls can be popped out and put in dishwasher but no special maintenance or cleaning regime; cooktop is a solid piece of steel so easier to clean than tops that come apart; burners are porcelain and can be shined if I like the look; and evidently there are licensed repair people in all states and most Canadian provinces and certainly available in Toronto. So that was all reassuring. Fixed price and fixed delivery costs (not cheap) and not negotiable. I then spoke with the appliance salesman I have been dealing with in Toronto who pointed out that the 43" width is not standard (like the Viking, Wolf, Dacor etc) which come in 48" and 36" and 30" and so if we ever wish to replace this range, it would require big adjustments to the cabinetry and countertops...so something to think about.

Betsy thank you so very much That is a great amount of good solid information. I hope the many members looking after le Cornefu at this forum will find their way to this thread so they can read your 'report'

I'd really have a long, long thought before changing cabinets and structure in the kitchen to fit this appliance though

Please look at my post about the LaCornufe. I have it, I love it, I researched it, and finally took a leap of faith. I had a burner problem and they fixed it immediately, no problem. I think you'll love it. Good luck.
