Is your pallet compatible with your partner for life?
Are there things you absolute love to eat but he cannot stand?
I have that problem.

I have long been wanting to make a burned vegetable salad. Roasting red peppers, Tomatoes, Eggplants zucinnis, some garlic and a hot pepper on the barbecue - actually charring them, and once they are done, scraping of the chare or peeling them (not to meticulously) and throwing them in a bowl with some olive oil and a bit of lemon juice.
Doesn’t that sound delicious?
Only problem is, my significant other cant stand tomatoes, or eggplant.
and since part of my enjoyment of what I prepare is seeing him enjoy it too, this is a dish I will not make unless he is away.
Tomatoes and Eggplants are only a couple of the foods he won’t eat. He cant stand beans (unless green), Mustard (Although I have tricked him into eating and subsequently loving my crispy honey mustard chicken) and onions.
He will eat finely chopped onions in a cooked dish but not say onion pie or onion soup.
Why, you are asking yourself, is she going on about this now? Well, I just saw an absolutely mouth watering dish on The Passionate Cook, called Marsala-roast onions with Camembert….
I will have to add it to my lenghthly list of things to make when he is away, which I am generaly happy to say, doesn’t happen often.

i feel your pain. my husband is a vegetarian who hates eggplant.
can you imagine how much that excludes?!?!
mind you, i hate capsicum (peppers) which just compounds the situation.

i have to say i am quite lucky - and i have also worked hard at making him appreciate the finer things in life. would you believe that he grew up hating cheese (he’s never eaten PROPER cheese, though), fish and seafood? all these things I just cannot live without. Now he craves them even more than i do… so a pretty good success, I should think. there are a few cravings he doesn’t share, which i must reserve for the days when he’s out or away on business… but they aren’t many.
vegetarians who don’t eat veg? that’s pretty tough. there’s only one veg i don’t eat (beetroot). and probably some i haven’t tried ;-)
chargrilled veg is the most delicious!

I’m really lucky that my husband is an adventurous eater. There used to be a lot of vegetables he hated - like eggplant - but that was the result of some awful early experiences. Now he’ll eat almost anything I put in front of him. The exception is anything with a lot of oil or butter. If he can see/taste the oil or butter he gets very turned off.

I guess I’ll have to keep trying…:-) I would love it if he would just taste eggplant …
    Thanks for commenting!
