Hello

A caveat, I am a wine retailer in the US and Australia. That said, these are simply some notes on some wines that may be of interest. Please let me know if you'd like me to post these occasionally, or not.

I will not send you all commercial messages, but have decided to involve myself with conversations that I can have input into.

To the notes, (all questions about Australian wines, comments good and bad, welcome)

Not sure always about US availability of these.

1998 Rymill Coonawarra Shiraz a terrific wine from a great vintage. Always a favourite this, the outstanding 1998 vintage does not disappoint. Deep purple red colour with a very intense and complex nose of cherry, spice some cedar, even hints of violets, just lovely. The palate too does not disappoint being chock full of flavour, plums and cherry fruit are the base, mingled with which are a host of other flavours, mocha, earth, hints of pepper and spice and some vanillin oak. The wine is starting to come together and will improve for the medium term. A fantastic and honestly flavoured wine.

a personal recent favourite

2001 Isabel Estates Sauvignon Blanc This wine exhibits a profusion of flavours from intense gooseberry and passionfruit through to rich, ripe tropical exotic fruits such as mango, lychee and pineapple. Exquisitely soft in texture, the wine is finely balanced with juicy fruit flavours, smoky mineral characters and good acidity. In short, gratifying mouth feel and length, a classic ripe year

another little known label not in the USA

1999 Aldinga Bay Shiraz Classy McLaren Vale style Shiraz oozing flavour! The colour is deep red with dark purple tints. Very aromatic, berries, chocolate and raspberries, vanilla, subtle mocha, hints of charring from the oak, all mingled together and beautifully balanced. The palate is all this and more, berries, raspberries and blackberries, plus plums, it has lashings of flavour with some good structure and slightly grippy tannins. It has great length with a fresh feel to it, and everything in balance. Beautifully made!

2000 Aldinga Bay Winery Sangiovese Lovely wine this, and a total surprise to me. This was a clear deep red colour, not the purple of most Aussie reds, but rich looking anyway with good depth. The nose showed sweet fruit dominant, melon, berries, spice, rose petals and even hints of violets over a savoury spicy edge, quite savoury and fascinating. The palate too is lovely with great depth of pure fruit, spice and hints of tar along with savoury meaty edge. The tannins are light and ripe, and the acid balanced and fresh. The finish of this wine must be 60 seconds or longer.

bye for now.
