brusselI am always surprised when I find out so many people have a deep dislike for vegetables like broccoli and Brussel sprouts.

Both of them are delicious in my eyes (or mouth) and I can’t remember ever not liking them. This may be because of there taste which is rich and flavourful, yet clean tasting, and it might also be because of my run-away-imagination.

As a child I was quite a loner, to the onlooker, but really, in my mind at least, I was completely surrounded by friends, and never alone. The fact that those Friends where all fictitious book characters or at a younger age my imaginary Friends, didn’t really matter to me.

Broccoli could be turned into an edible forest for the fairy folk hide in, and Brussel sprouts was small enough to be eaten by fairy folk, Plus, both vegetables provided much entertainment and possibility for slow eating via dissection. so who was I to dislike these magical vegetables.

Unfortunately, whenever I by Brussel sprouts these days, I eat alone. I just can’t seem to persuade anyone to join me in the fun. I never boil any vegetables, But steam them, keeping there color delightfully green, but still, no joy.

I recently read a recipe in Crispy Waffle for Stir Fried Brussel sprouts with garlic, and it just so happened that I had some at home which I was already mentally prepared to eat alone.

I made them as a side dish to Salmon, instead of the usual broccoli that I make to go with the salmon, and the result was the whole family husband and 2 year old included - licking there fingers and asking for more!
