Hi there,

I am looking after information about Mexican wines: the types of wines, their history etc. I will be there on holiday in august this year. Can someone help me ? Every discussion, website or good address in Mexico is welcome.

Thanks in advance

Ines,

The main growing area today is in Northern Baja; An area called . The main wineries that dominate the table wine market are Casa Cuervo, Monte Xanic, Productos de Uva, Casa Madero, and L.A. Cetto y Bodegas Santo Tomás. My preference is the Monte Xanic or the Cetto. Beware though, none of these wines are very good. At best, they are adequate.

They seem to do better with Red than white varietals and I like the Monte Xanic Merlot and Cab but beware, they are priced high. When I was in Puerto Vallarta, the cab was going for $50 and the Merlot for $45. It isn't worth it in my opinion as they are still learning how to make the wines.

I know there was an article in either the Wine Spectator or the Enthusiast in the past year.
